Direct Support Professional (DSP)

DSPs provide support to individuals who experience developmental and/or intellectual disabilities. These supports enhance the quality of life of supported individuals and include but are not limited to; hygiene, self-care, motor skills, vocational skills, communication and social skills, behavior self-management, community integration, and recreational and leisure activities.

DSP Responsibilities include:

  • Promote and implement EPC’ s mission, ensuring that supports delivered prioritize inclusivity, acceptance, and client empowerment.

  • Provide an environment that promotes person-centered thinking, and an individual's right to choice, respect, and dignity.

  • Ensure the health and safety of program participants.

  • Maintain positive relationships with participants, Staff, and others in the community not paid to provide supports.

  • Respect and maintain the confidentiality of the participant's supports and records. Be able to work unsupervised and alone with the participant(s) supported.

  • Meet all deadlines and complete detailed daily documentation.

Requirements and Skills:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.

  • Be legally eligible to work in the United States

  • Understand the requirements of maintaining confidentiality and safeguarding individual information.

  • Pass a State/Federal criminal history check and not be on the list of excluded or debarred providers maintained by the Office of the Inspector General.

  • Be literate and capable of understanding written and oral orders.

  • Be able to communicate with individuals, health care providers, case managers, and appropriate others.

  • Be able to respond to emergency situations at all times that services are being delivered.

  • Be certified and maintain certification in CPR and First Aid by a recognized training agency within 90

  • calendar days of employment.

  • If transporting individuals, have a valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record and vehicle insurance in compliance with the laws of the Department of Motor Vehicles.

  • Be able to be certified and maintain certification Oregon Intervention System (OIS).

  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen for the use of illegal substances.

  • Able to schedule and coordinate multiple projects and follow through with completion. Utilize excellent interpersonal communication skills.

  • Be well organized and attentive to detail. Be cooperative and willing to learn.

  • Be able to operate all related computer applications.
